Acclaimed author Jonathan Safran Foer is back with his first novel in over a decade : HERE I AM And here’s the cover design by @gray.318 “I lucked out the day I got briefed to design a cover for a first-time novel called Everything Is Illuminated,” Gray told BuzzFeed. “Fourteen years later and I’m still riding that luck. *Synopsis* Here I Am is the story of a family in crisis. As Jacob and Julia confront their collapsing marriage in Washington, DC, a catastrophic earthquake devastates the Middle East, sparking a pan-Arab invasion of Israel. At stake is the very meaning of home – and the fundamental question of how much life one can bear. #gray318 #jonathansafranfoer #bookcoverart #bookdesign #bookjacketdesign #typography #type #handlettering #longcopy

“A little slash / a little burn / a little never to return" On @thaogetstaydown’s latest album "A Man Alive," Thao Nguyen sings about her father, who ducked out of Thao’s life around the time she was getting the hang of guitar as a kid. To record songs so personal, she sought help from her good friend, the acclaimed songwriter and producer Merrill Garbus (@tuneyards). The two musicians talk to @californiasunday about their collaboration and the near-telepathic quality of their friendship. Illustration by @hsiaoroncheng

Delighted with our copy of ‘Overlooked’ from @PentagramDesign partner Marina Willer (@marinawiller) 'Overlooked’ is a booklet featuring neon rubbings of 22 street covers that celebrates industrial design and London's history. We found our local rubbing, ‘ELECTRICITY’ in Clerkenwell, EC1. Overlooked is the 45th Pentagram Paper, the self-published series shining a spotlight on quirky or vernacular design. Sorry @marina_willer - Our photograph does not do justice for the wonderful flouro ink.

'BATTLE OF HARAPOURI' by Kustaa Saksi Like his earlier Hypnopompic tapestries, those soon to go on show in Asia have been manufactured on a Jacquard loom at the TextielMuseum, Tilburg using natural materials such as mohair, merino and alpaca mixed with cotton + synthetic fibres such as rubber, glow-in-the-dark phosphate and metallic threads. Where the last group were born of night and the ‘sensory confusion leading out of sleep’, these relate to ‘the short-term detachment’ of daydreams. The results are no less surreal, referencing visual delusions, abstract landscapes and optical art with fantastic effect. WOOLGATHERING runs @usagi_hongkong from the 26 March–17 April 2016.

Cover design by @JoelHolland_Studio. Published by @penguinusa As caustically funny as it is heartbreaking, 13 Ways of Looking at a Fat Girl is the debut novel by Mina Awad (@monaawadauthor) a vital new voice in fiction. *Book Synopsis* Growing up in the suburban hell of Misery Saga (a.k.a. Mississauga), Lizzie has never liked the way she looks—even though her best friend Mel says she’s the pretty one. She starts dating guys online, but she’s afraid to send pictures, even when her skinny friend China does her makeup: she knows no one would want her if they could really see her. So she starts to lose weight. With punishing drive, she counts almonds consumed, miles logged, pounds dropped. She fights her way into coveted dresses. She grows up and gets thin, navigating double-edged validation from her mother, her friends, her husband, her reflection in the mirror. But no matter how much she loses, will she ever see herself as anything other than a fat girl? In this brilliant, hilarious, and at times shocking debut, Mona Awad simultaneously skewers the body image-obsessed culture that tells women they have no value outside their physical appearance, and delivers a tender and moving depiction of a lovably difficult young woman whose life is hijacked by her struggle to conform.

Illustration by SHOUT about the mystery of Harold Backer’s fraud. A fascinating, true story which plays out like a thriller. Harold Backer was a beloved and trusted member of his community who stole money from all his friends and even his own brother. One day he left a letter and disappeared. He had invested their money but lost it all, and kept up a front for over 15 years. On the morning of Tuesday, November 3rd 2015, Harold Backer went for a bike ride and never came home. His wife, Elizabeth Hardy, would later tell police that her husband had planned to cycle the Galloping Goose Trail, a popular path near their apartment in Victoria, Canada. Harold often rode the trail, she said. He’d been clear that he would not be long...
