Kustaa Saksi / Offpiste - In The Land Of Kustaa Saksi
Illustrator KUSTAA Saksi launched his *OFFPISTE In the land of Kustaa Saksi* book with an accompanying exhibition in Singapore (The Art Studio, Old School, Mt. Sophia, Singapore) Bangkok and Manila.
The illustrator’s works have already been exhibited at various group and solo exhibitions worldwide, including Paris, Barcelona and Lille, as well as Tokyo, Hong Kong, NYC, Berlin and Helsinki. This coming exhibition, Off-piste - In the Land of Kustaa Saksi, named after a skiing term, is an extreme version of the sport, where the skier deliberately skis off trail in undeveloped terrain and area. This latest show is a retrospective of his works. The viewer is presented with the progression of ideas, thoughts and concepts, the intersection of inspiration, imagination and challenges that Kustaa have taken on in his journey so far as an artist, which, like an off-piste skier, is bravely conquering and marking new territories.
Kustaa has already realized designs, patterns and visuals for designer labels including Issey Miyake's A-POC, Comme des Garcons, Levi's, Diesel and Lacoste. Magazines such as The New York Times, The Guardian, Playboy, Flaunt and Wallpaper have had many a page decorated with is wonderful work. Clients like Mercedes-Benz, Citroën and Toyota have used his designs in their campaigns.
He also has a passion for the music industry, as his collaborative work with Catskills Records (UK) goes to show. Saksi has recently been commissioned by superstar Jennifer Lopez, for her clothing label Justsweet. He was also responsible for conceptualizing and creating a graphic installation for Jennifer Lopez's fashion show at New York Fashion week together with Paris based architect Alexandre de Betak.
Revolutionary designer Issey Miyake, renowned for his technology inspired clothing, has also utilized Saksi’s talents, inviting him to design the visuals that celebrate the A-POC Space's 5th anniversary in Paris. MTV are also fans of the illustrator: Kustaa designed the logo for the MTV Music Award Show in Rome.
Check out this SHORT CLIP of Kustaa's collaboration projection onto a massive (70 meters) facade of the Philippines Cultural Center. Amazing architecture - huge building!
Starting with Kustaa's logo and the Philippines national anthem, the animations were made by local animators (Kustaa gave each of them 50 of his graphic elements to play around and the results are quite impressive)!!
